That's brilliant. DD1 does a bit of felting, but usually flat pictures for art and flowers for hair clips.

Thank you Elephant.

DD1 got a sewing kit for her Christmas. Which turned out to need you to felt the material to make the kit. Kit came with 3 felting needles, I've had to buy another packet (of 6) to get it finished.

Note to self - telling child to be careful then sticking the felting needle through your own finger will make your child laugh like a drain.

But yours looks fabulous, OP! Sorry, am a little scarred (ha!) by my experience...

That's lovely, Marci Smile

Been there, Poledra. Ouch!

Lifesalemon · 01/09/2014 14:02

That is fab marci how did you get the shape?
I bought a needle felt tool a while ago but the only thing I've done with it is covered some polystyrene eggs. They look good but I wouldn't know where to start if I hadn't had the basic shape to start with. I've seen some amazing needlefelted animals with really fine detail. So clever.
What's your next project? Can't wait to see it.

Lifesalemon, I made a ball of carded wool, and squashed it flatter as I felted. I've only got one needle so it was a bit slow.
Then I put some green and yellow wool on the north and south poles in star shapes and felted that on, and then I tied thread as tightly as I could like lines of longitude iykwim.
Here's a pic of halfway stage.

It's a lot smaller now. I have ordered some pumpkin coloured roving now, can't wait till tomorrow.
See how it shrank? I don't know if that's usual as I've never done it before.

Thanks. marci that's amazing, so clever. I can't believe its your first attempt.

Well, DGS (7 and highly unskilled :) ) went on a felting day session and came back with a pair of slippers he'd made! So I thought, if he can, I can.

But you're all very kind.

I've always been interested in felting but haven't the first clue how to start - how to do it, what materials are needed... Can anyone advise?
