I recently finished sewing up a blanket I made for DD.

The only additional tip I would share is to sew it in sections rather than in one piece that just grows and grows. Mine only had 84 squares (though they were about 6 x 6 inches per square) and I made a blanket for a single bed that was 12 squares by 7.

So I started off by sewing together rows 1 to 3 in one section. Then I did rows 4 to 6 in another, then 7 to 9 and finally 10 to 12. So by now I had four pieces each 3 8 7 squares.

Then it was sew them together to make two lots of 6 and then only in the final seam was I working on the whole blanket.

I am glad I did it that way as I found working with the whole blanket quite unwieldy and I wouldn't like to do it for a long time.

I sew mine in one go to minimise ends.

First I sew squares 1 and 6 then, without finishing off, join 2 and 7, 3 and 8, 4 and 9 etc. at the end of the row I finish off and leave the end to be caught into the border.
Then I add in the squares from the next row and the next... I end up with a blanket that is held together across the width of the blanket. Then I join it up along the lengths.

All the ends are then able to be caught into the border with no darning.

I've never made anything bigger than Sofa Snuggling Size though.
