sewing machine help

I'd like to get a sewing machine. I am shit at sewing and craft but I'd like to learn.

Lidl have the Singer Tradition 2282 on sale this week at £80. I can't find any reviews though as I think this is a model they do abroad rather than here. The UK Singer site has the tradition models 2250, 2259, 2263 and 2273.

I was just going to get the one in Lidl but H said I should wait and check out the local sewing shop.

I thought I'd ask here. I am clueless.

I don't do much sewing either, so have a basic, easy machine from JL which was £99 i think. It does all the stitches I'd need, buttonholes etc and is very easy to thread and has a needle threader. To be honest, if you don't do much, you don't need more than the most basic machine, I'd imagine you'd use zig-zag, straight, an edging stitch, buttonholes and not much more. If the singer does all that (and I'd be surprised if it didn't!) i'd just go for it.

£80 is a good price and Singer is a really good brand. Tbh there's not a lot of difference between the basic models-if you just want to do running/zig zag stitches etc a singer will almost certainly be fine for that. You can always upgrade if you get really into it but I do loads of sewing(well did until DS was born!) and still only have a pretty basic sewing machine!

Sounds good to me - I would go for it.
I have one with all the bells and whistles now but most of my sewing has been done on old handcranked machines (incl a 1940s Singer) and basic machines are fine.

I started on the other Lidl sewing machine (non-known brand) and after a year of constant use traded up to a Husqvarna Viking emerald. It was perfectly good and very very similar (almost identical) to my friend's sewing machine that was 3x the price.
