Substitute yarn for Rowan Cashsoft DK

I woul like to knit a baby cardigan from a pattern book I have had for a while, but the yarn is discontinued

The pattern says to use Rowan Cashsoft DK on 3.25mm needles.

The book has a table that's supposed to help you find a substitution if you need one, but it has just confused me!

The table says:

3.25mm needles = superfine yarn/3-ply/fingering/baby = baby wear/shawls/fine-knit socks

But also says that DK/light worsted/5-6 ply = 4.5mm needles = jumpers/lightweight scarves/blankets/toys

Does anyone have any experience of Cashsoft DK? Is it a superfine wool to be knitted on 3.25mm needles or is it like a normal DK and I should substitute with a 5-6 ply?

If anyone has any particular brand recommendations for a suitable weight yarn that is soft for a baby cardigan (!) then please recommend it :) I prefer smooth-ish finishes to fluffy wool (hope that makes sense!).

and this one both have very similar yardage to weight to the cash soft dk, e.g. 115m to 50g so they should knit up to the same gauge.

The sublime is lovely to knit with but very expensive.
Personally I don't like the king cole as my stitches always look quite uneven and messy when I use it, but I gave it as an example.
At the moment I'm knitting a lot of baby stuff in Rico Baby SoSoft dk, which is an acrylic which is very smooth and looks and feels a lot like the sublime yarn above, but it's a lot cheaper! It's yardage is slightly different 250m to 100g.

Or how about Rowan Baby Merino Silk?It knits up beautifully and it is machine washable.

Thank you for these ideas. Do you think they will all make a similar sized garment? I am worried I'll knit the thing an it'll be tiny or huge!

I know I should knit a tension square and change needles if it doesn't measure the right size, but it takes me ages to knit a square, so I don't want to be faffing around trying different needles. If I use the recommended wool, I tend to end up with the right sized garment, so must have a fairly average tension. So I want to knit with something very similar to the CashSoft DK.

If it's cashsoft DK then substitute it with any soft standard DK to suit your budget and washing instructions.

Which cardigan/which book? 3.25mm is small for a DK are you sure it's not just for the edging?
