Ideas for summer hols craft project for DSs 5 & 9

I thought it would be nice to do some kind of dip in and out craft project with my boys over the summer holidays but I'm full of tonsillitis and out of inspiration.

Can anyone suggest something fun and satisfying please?

I'm looking after two girls aged 7 and 6 and we have made a puppet theatre out of a box, they are enjoying making scenery, puppets and scripts. So far they have done hansel and gretel (their witches house looked great with lots of sweetie pictures from magazines stuck on) and little red riding hood. The puppets are just figures cut out of card and a lollipop stick stuck on the back, so nothing complicated, but the kids have had some really creative ideas.

Not sure it's as long term as you're looking for but my DC aged 6 and 9 like making their own board games and playing them. Generally they have a theme, eg. garden, space, etc.
