Next halloween I would really like to make a witch and cat scarecrow style figures, perhaps about two or three foot tall, to put outside the door as a display with the pumpkin. Wonder please if anyone knows of a good website or book that would have this? One year I was in Devon in the summer and the village had stuffed nursery rhyme characters outside the cottages, it was some sort of carnival and they looked so fab, my girls loved them. Thankyou so much if anyone has any ideas.

I've had a google and can't see anything...but it won't be difficult...for the witch I would use wooden poles or even branches....bind some together into a sort of stick man shape....wrap "limbs" with old fabric in dark colours...you can dress the legs with old striped tights and make a long black cloak easily enough. The head could be constructed out of a ball of the right size covered in green or white fabric....paint the features on and make a black pointed hat. Add a broomstick made again from branches.

For the cat...it's more diffcult if you want a realistic one...but I would go with a similar, but smaller shape...dress it in something suitable and make the ball/head covered in black fabric with ears and white whiskers and green eyes.

Thankou MrsW, I had a look online took and though there are lots of pictures no 'how to' guides! I am going to have a go at what you suggest and see what materialises

I would use an old black fleece jumper/material to make the cat and stuff with plastic bags. Green glass button for eyes and black pipe cleaners for whiskers.
Does'nt have to be an complicated shape- tube for the body, with more stuffing in the tum, square for the head and tie the excess fabric so you make a round shape. Long sausage shape for the tail

Ah, that's kind! I have just been watching 'halloween witch ornament craft tutorial' on youtube, it's a really good witch's head from air dry clay.
