What length of circular needle do I need?

I am about to start knitting my very first sweater (the Owlet pattern by Kate Davies, am possibly being too ambitious but I thought I'd give it a go). The chest circumference will be 23 inches but I'm not sure if I need a 40cm or 60cm circular needle (23 inches is a few cm under 60). Any advice? Thanks

I'd take a 40 cm. It is better to squish the stitches up a bit than to have them not reach from one end to the other. I have done that jumper, it's not that hard. Have a look at my notes if you like on Ravelry (ravelry.com), same user name.

Great, thanks very much. I've had a skim through the pattern and there's bits I'm not clear on but figure I can look it up on YouTube or Ravelry.
