Sewing machine issues

The needle on my sewing machine keeps jamming and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. It sews fine for ages and then all of a sudden with a loud bang, the needle gets stuck and the only way I can fix it is by removing and replacing the bobbin and shuttle. I'm removing all pins so the needle's only going into fabric. Could it be the tension? How can I tell if the tension is wrong? The stitching itself looks fine. Maybe I've got the wrong needle...?

Have you changed the needle?

FieldRose · 28/06/2014 23:18

Yes a few times.

Did you clean all the Lunt and dust under the bobbin?
Also check bobbin case - run your fingers around it, sometimes a scratch makes it move and hit the needle.

It could be the timing - have you ever had it serviced ?

First check that needle is fitted correctly and securely. If it is not tight, may be fine to start off but then work loose and then go bang as not corrrectly in line.

Also, always start with a good clean of the bobbin area. Make sure there are no stray bits of thread or fluff - use a lint cleaning brush and blow to clear out. It is amazing the problems a stray bit of lint can cause!

Brilliant. Thank you, I shall try all those tips : ) it's about a yr old but I haven't used it much. I shall see how it gets on with a good clean etc first and check out servicing after if it's still jamming.
