Anyone ever made their own wedding stylee hat??

this is my ideal but I've left it far too late to 'chance' China post!

I am wearing my hair in a high bun so actually, my hat shape will be more of a crescent (or croissant!) than a circle, with the worry that it'll look like my bun is being attacked by a giant felt slug......

I am using foam as a former and I anticipate many, many tries before I make one I don't throw across the room in despair.. Grin

You can buy all the components for that hat and make it yourself, probably off ebay.

I bought a hat off ebay for a wedding last year which, whilst the style was perfect, turned out out to be a dark beige and not the cream in the photos.

A can of spray paint and some silk flowers later... a perfect hat.

I have the kit, that's the felt, the feathers and I can make a bow,

I have sellotaped a bun-former doughnut on an upturned pudding basin (my 'head) and am about to rough out a teardrop shape on tracing paper so it can sit around the bun as a start (as opposed to 'a slug'!).

OMG help!

I have 'carved' the hat former out of foam. I have gone 'teardrop' shaped. It looks for all the world like a badger's lung Grin. HOW can I cover it? I have felt fabric but it's far too stiff to mould around this organic shape!

DH helpfully suggested 'black marker pen'....

Wot?
