What do I need to make a silk scarf?

Have fancied this for some time but no idea where to start. Would love it if the dc (4y & 3y) could join in the fun.

I was wondering if anyone knows what materials I would need and where I could order stuff from? Is it suitable for dc to get stuck in or is it quite tricky to do? Can anyone link to some good tutorials maybe?

Tia!!

Are you sure you want to use silk? Especially if you want/would like DC to help. Silk is, in my experience, fairly difficult to work with (slippery etc) and can't take being overworked - it will show holes of needle if you unstitch. Or are you looking at using cheaper silky looking material?

Cotton is good for DC to get going on and having fun.

Tilly (of Tilly & The Buttons) has a good head scraf pattern out that is suitable for beginners: www.tillyandthebuttons.com/2014/04/make-brigitte-scarf-come-to-my-online.html

You can buy lengths of silk or premade scarves for painting or dyeing here

I use them and it's great - and every scarf truly original! They also sell paints and bow-ties and normal ties. All great!
