Roman Blind advice please

I need to buy a few Roman blinds and am thinking maybe I could get used ones. Length isn't a great issue but width obviously is. Do you think they look OK fitted on the outside? Is it easy or even possible to make them narrower?
Would be very grateful for your advice please. My thinking is that they wouldn't look right fitted outside but I have no idea about making them more narrow.

I think it depends on your windows. A friend had a boxy new build house, and blinds fitted outside of the window recess "dressed" them a bit more, if that makes sense.

Actually I have just been looking at some pictures of the fitted on the outside and they look OK imo. What do you think?

The more I think about this the more attractive this option is, thanks.

I like them fitted on the outside of the recess. About 2 inches overlap to the side of the recess looks nice and the advantage is that they pull up completely clear of the top so don't reduce the light.

If your used ones are missing any parts from their mechanisms, spares can be got from Merrick and Day.

I have two fitted outside of the window and they look fine, both of them I made myself and they have a contrasting border
