searching for a pattern

I've not done much garment sewing before but I really want these shorts but there's no way I'm paying 50 quid for them!

They look really simple, but as I'm so inexperienced with making clothes, I'd ideally like a pattern. I've had a google but can't seem to find anything for adults.

They're a pretty retro racer/running short style, so maybe a vintage pattern? But where/how would I find what I'm looking for? Any help gratefully received!

Have you got a pair do similar (yucky shiny material) shorts to steal the pattern? I'm suet someone will comes along soon with a better solution

No, I don't- perhaps that's the route I should go down though, tracking some cheap ones down and taking them apart

Style 4116 and McCall's4697 both have a pattern for bog standard shorts. Not sure whether they would still be available, but you are welcome to borrow. Don't really want to lose them completely, although it is uncertain whether i will ever use the patterns again. They are both in size 16.

Actually, on searching for those numbers I haven't found the Style pattern and although the McCalls pattern does come up with that picture, the firm who has it is not selling at the moment and is in America. Sorry. Offer of loan is still open.

Thanks so much Dutchoma, I have actually found a copy of McCall's 6545 on etsy which I think I might go for.

I'm sure I'll be back for advice when it comes to attempting it!

There's a tutorial for bias trimmed shorts and a free pattern here

mellysews.com/2013/07/bias-trimmed-shorts-for-women-with-free-pattern.html

Not sure if this is any good? If made in a wild print with contrast bias?

quineandloons · 24/05/2014 10:11

Thanks RavenRose, I'll try that first as it's free- she uses a knit fabric and they're a bit more fitted than I'd like, but I could have a few tries with an old sheet or something before slicing into proper fabric (a friend of mine has lots of vintage east African fabric)

I'll add it to my list! Currently wrestling with this quilt
