Workshop hire by the hour?

I'm in the process of planning a home sensory room at the moment, and having seen the price of bubble walls I thought I'd have a go at making one myself.

However, for cutting the acrylic I'll need more accurate tools than I have at home. Does anyone know if it's possible to hire workshops by the hour anywhere? I'd basically need a band saw, bench drill & a workbench - the kind of thing that (in my day) would have been in a school workshop.

Has anyone done this? I'd probably only need to use one for an hour or two.

Could you try asking a local school in exchange for a donation to their school funds?

I've dropped them a note, though I strongly suspect that they'll shy away from it for insurance reasons - not quite the same as hiring the school hall. I suppose I was wondering whether there were any commercial providers for this kind of thing.

I guess the problem is not finding one but finding one near you.

I think my dad's home workshop has all that and more but that's not much help!

Why don't you put up a notice in the local shop/newsagent's window as I bet there are people who do have a home workshop who for the price of a few bottles of beer/wine would happily let you borrow theirs?

As suspected, the school have declined the suggestion for H&S reasons.

Owl that depends - where does he live, and are there any days that he's regularly out...? Grin

reindees good idea - I'll give that a try.

:)

Locally, we have a project for adults with learning difficulties where they make stuff to sell - is there somewhere similar near you that might have the tools?

We have loads of tool hire places around us that would hire all of these pieces of equipment.

Lonecat yes, plenty here too - but it gets a bit expensive when I just want to use each bit of kit for maybe 10 minutes, but have to pay a day rate for hire of each one...
