How are these granny squares joined? cannot figure out

I have crocheted similar squares and would like to join them up the same way. I don't know which other stitch I could use to join granny squares up intended for a two-colour bag. Many thanks for any suggestions.

I think it looks most like number 8 here if not there's plenty of other ideas
