It's a while since I did baby sized knitting so I'm a bit out of touch, but there's a new baby on the way in my family.Grin
Can anyone recommend a decent mid price yarn? Preferably in DK as I'm impatient Grin

Sirdar make a lovely range of baby yarn. Snuggly comes in both pastels and brights and washes quite well. It is 100% acrylic but is very soft and not squeaky. This is about £3 or so for a 50g ball. It comes in 100g balls but in a much more limited range of shades.

Baby bamboo is also very nice to work with although I have only crocheted with this. This also has a lovely range of shades again both pastels and brights. This is about £4 per 50g ball.

Sirdar snowflake is a "fashion" yarn that knits up sort of like fleece. This comes in chunky too for a really fast knit. I find it squeaks a bit unless I use my bamboo needles.

I have knitted with Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino and it is lovely to work with. It costs about £5 a ball but you would only need 2 for a first size baby cardigan. Garments can be machine washed on a gentle cycle but ideally they should be hand washed - not always practical for a new mum although my lovely SIL hand washed the cardis I made her twins.

Thank you. I used to use Sirdar snugly and it's lovely, I just wondered if it was still the one to go for. I've bought some this morning, 6 balls, so that should probably do 4 cardigans.
I looked at the cash merino and it's beautiful. Think I might get some of that for the next size once the baby's here
