Words to embroider on to a memory quilt?

I have a pile of squares that I've cut up from loads of DD's old clothes, I have a friend with an embroidery machine who says she'll happily do some words for me on a square to add to the quilt. But what to put? I was thinking DD's full name, D.O.B and maybe something like 'made with love' and an embroidered poppy (DD is called Poppy).

I want something on it, so it's obvious that it's a memory quilt rather than just an ordinary one made out of random scraps.

I think it needs to be personal. what about words from some favourite songs rhymes, books, names of toys por dolls, places you have had nice days out memorable events.

For me it may be something like this

big old apple tree....a wee wee man.....park bubbles.....misty rainbows....round and round the garden.........chocolate for the elf.....puddle sitting.......pirate dancing......baking for Santa......swinging skywards ...another haircut for Nathan.....Kitty Jasmine

Phrases that all have special memories, provide points for discussion- or intrigue! and are very personal.

Good idea, but DD is only 2.10. So there aren't really many memorable phrases and her favourite toys change daily! She does love give little ducks though, and row row the boat.

Sounds like a lovely idea! Wish I'd thought of that.

Don't forget you can add to the quilt over the years. You can do this by hand easily enough, you don't really need a friend with a machine. You could start with name, DOB etc and add to it as you go along.

Could you add a family tree, to show where she fits in to her maternal and paternal families - how they both came together to make her? (Leave room for any potential siblings as they come along, and be prepared to make similar quilts for other future DCs!

The name of the place where she was born
Your name and her Dad's name
The name of your pet if you have one
The name of the song that was number 1 when she was born

Is it a birth memory quilt? You will have lots more memories to come and you may want to incorporate some of that into the quilt too. Why not get a box and start saving fabric, you could also jot down ideas and phrases as they come to you.
Some of the best memories of a child's life come well after the age of two.

I have just had the best idea. And I googled it to see if it's possible. I can print some photo's of her/us/happy memories onto fabric and add those to it!
