I've just bought this glue gun from Amazon. It came with no instructions. Does anyone have any tips as to how to use it? Thanks.

How strange

I'm guessing stick the glue in the round holes at the back then turn it on.

Is there any lights on it?

I bought a similar one, and I hate it.

The glue sticks go in the back, you plug it in and it heats up, there is no on switch on mine, you pull the trigger to squeeze the glue out, but there is no real control there, it seems to come out as it pleases really.

Sorry not much use really, I ended up buying another one.

Instructions?
Glue in back, turn it on. Stand it on old baking tray, when glue drips out the front use.

Only caveat, don't use low temp glue sticks unless it says it's a low temp glue gun. Given what they say it's for that one isn't.

Thanks everyone. Which glue gun did you end up getting shaking? I'm planning on sticking on some chicks and flowers on to a hat for an Easter bonnet. I have been thinking about getting a glue gun for so long I'm quite giddy with excitement that it's now arrived. Can I ask what things you have used your glue guns for?

Making Easter bonnets and jewelled crowns (and anything else involving flexi foam).

Complicated collage with pasta, sequins, felt, Hama beads, etc. for WI

Fixing a 101 school projects where things fall off because PVA wasn't the right glue.

Button Christmas cards with Y6 when school final bought some low temp glue guns.

Thanks Nocomet. I was really pleased with the Easter bonnets - it was worth staying up til 2am to get them finished! The glue sticks don't last long, do they? I used 3 glue sticks for 2 Easter bonnets - luckily the glue gun came with 50 glue sticks. I had some foil to catch the drips of glue and only touched the hot glue with my finger once. You definitely need to use a cocktail stick or something like that to press things down.

DH managed to find some extra long industrial glue sticks on line, they look really daft sticking out the back of the glue gun, but they last ages.

Aldi are selling their own brand hot glue sticks just now. They're extra long and £2.99 for 50. You'd need to check the width, these are 11mm.

Ulysses · 07/04/2014 17:04

Sorry Tens, your ones the smaller size.

Tensmumym · 08/04/2014 12:13

Thanks for the advice Nocomet and Ulysses. Just need to decide on my next project. Dh's birthday is coming up so I may try and make something for him. Any ideas welcome.
