How to customise a leotard

Dd would like a new leotard/ unitard for dance. The custom ones online are so Expensive that I'd like to try customising a plain one but don't really know where to start...

She's seen a metallic unitard that she likes but would like a sash of colour and maybe some diamantes attached. I'm quite crafty but have never tried this- does anybody have any ideas I could use? Presumably appliqués etc wouldn't work and anything I sewed on would also have to be made of Lycra?

Easy and quick would be a sequinned belt? I would think that you would be OK with applique (how did you do the accent?) as long as the leotard is not too tight. I don't know though, I just don't like unanswered posts!

Honestly, bite the bullet and spend the money on a Zone one.

Customising Lycra for show costumes is doable. Customising it for the amount of abuse and washing DD2 gives her gym leotards is not worth it.
