Sewing Bee - Baby Dress Knickers

Making the baby dress from the sewing bee pattern, so far so good...but come to making the casing for the knickers and I'm a bit confused.

The waist casing was easy but the legs casings - where it says to fold over 5mm, press, then fold over 3cm and press...it's not really possible to fold over on the curve without all the fabric bunching up under it. Is this right? Is there a special trick that I'm not getting?

I've not seen the pattern- but yes this does sound tricky. Personally I wouldn't try and press it first... just carefully machine it freehand if possible - tucking a little under as you go.
To be honest if they are gathered any small amounts of bunching will get hidden once the elastic is in anyway.

Thanks. I'll try that. I was getting so dispirited this morning; this is my first proper sewing project outside my dressmaking class and I just felt useless last night when I couldn't make it 'work'.

There will be some scrunch, but the elastic hides it when you have finished.
