Whats the softest super chunky acrylic?

Just that really. I made my DD a gorgeous chunky knit hat, which she's nuts about but she's complaining its too ichy. I need something that I can knit up on size 9 or 10mm needles. I was thinking acrylic. I went and had a look at the wool shop but nothing struck me as being really soft. Any suggestions you wise ole knitting owls?

TIA

Sirdar make Snowflake Chunky which is super soft but knits on 6mm needles. It does knit up quickly though and there is a fairly decent range of colours.

Thanks woolly but I really need something super chunky for 9mm needles as I'm not experienced enough to adapt the pattern and want to make sure that it fits!

Perhaps check on Ravelry with the thickness comparisons of various yarns to see if it could be used double to make super chunky. They also make it in DK so a strand of that and a strand of chunky might be the right thickness

I've got some Snowflake chunky at home. I'll double it up and knit a test swatch if you like. Post the tension stitches and rows for your pattern and I'll see if the stitches/rows match.

Thanks woolly that is very kind of you, but I'd rather just go with a super chunky yarn as I'm not an experienced knitter and don't fancy doubling up the yarn, I'd rather just keep it simple.

Big softie is a nice super chunky, knits up on 8-10mm nicely, I have knit it on 5s and 11s too just to see what it'd turn out like, but the tension is nice on 9s and 10s

I think Attic24 is a fan of the Stylecraft chunky.

piemashandliquer · 13/04/2014 15:15

Than you u32ng, I don't know that one, I will take a look.

Hmm, I can only find it in chunky which is for 6mm needles, I really need something for 10mm needles, thanks anyway.

Anyone used lionbrand thick and quick (think that's what it's called!)

I'm sure I read somewhere that itchy wool can be made less itchy with conditioner, might be worth a look?

piemashandliquer · 13/04/2014 21:13

That's interesting Kveta, do you know what I need to do?

Stylecraft Weekender is a super chunky acrylic, their life range has a % of wool in it but is machine washable.

piemashandliquer · 13/04/2014 21:58

Thanks Kveta, I will check it out. Thanks also Grotbags, I will check out the stylecraft weekender - have you used it? Is it nice and soft?
