Sewing machine seam guide

I am looking for a seam guide. Initially for a bit of quilting but also for hems etc so would be looking for something adjustable. I can't use a magnetic guide as my machine (silver 1035) is computerised.

Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest tape too. It's worked for me for years!

There are lines on the foot plate on my machine.

My machine has lines too but you can get feet with guides that make quilting at 1/4 or 1/8 inch easier as the fabric runs along the edge of the guide. So in theory you wouldn't need to keep checking the lines in the feet and should end up with accurate seams. I hope I've explained this properly!

When your machine is on a straight stitch and you adjust the width does the needle move left and right? If so you can adjust the width setting until you're getting a 1/4" seam by lining the raw edges up to the edge of the foot - takes some trial and error on scrap fabric but much better in the long run (if you don't want to buy a 1/4" foot). You can write the settings down on masking tape and stick it to your machine.

I've used the guide as one came with my walking foot. I also have a quarter inch foot. Both work really well although the first line has to be correct if you use the guide as otherwise you are following a wonky line and all other lines go wonky if that makes sense.

I'm sure there are other ways and I've seen a base plate where the lines have been filled with Tippex to make them more obvious. But I'm a lazy sod and if there's a gadget to make life easier I'll use it so stick to the guide and foot!

I have a guide, a 1/4" foot and used tape. The special foot is the one that works for me.....

Tape was a revelation to me at sewing school.

I can't imagine not using it now!

Oh, is THAT what that thing is for? I got a weird looking bit of metal with my machine, looks like an Alan key but with an extra corner, I did wonder what it was for.

The edge of my sewing machine foot is at 1/4" so I just line up with that.

Update...
I splurged £5 for the special foot and love it! So simple but efficient and effective. And another shiny piece for my sewing machine bits n bobs collection.
