blocking large crocheted blanket

I have just about finished this but it needs blocking. I wondered about steaming it with an iron but not touching crochet on wrong side then laying on a bed but not pinning as it may cause rust.

ive seen suggestions of washing it then putting on bed but wouldn't that make bed damp etc

help thanks

Steaming has always worked well for me. I don't think you'd have a problem with rust from the pins TBH. There would be so little water and for such a short amount of time that it really shouldn't happen. If you stem it, once it has cooled down, it's pretty much good to go.

I have never done a whole blanket though, just squares.
