Shortening a sleeve

I bought a lovely top in Next sale but the sleeves are about 4" too long. I pinned them up but obviously, much like shortening trousers, you lose the shape really and they ended up a bit baggy looking. So I am thinking of narrowing the side sleeve first, tapering from the elbow down to the bottom, losing just over 1" at the existing wrist. Am I making sense? I think it will be easiest to do this and then I will take up the length. Does this sound right?? Would be grateful for any advice please, thanks! Oh yes - it is jersey, if that makes any difference, quite fine.

Hahaha I am guessing you all have normal length arms then!
