A learn-to-sew book for 8yo dd?

Thanks to Sewing Bee, dd is now very keen to do more sewing.

I have a book from the 1970s with projects ranging from pincushions to a simple skirt, but it's not cool enough for her so I need a more up-to-date one. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Sew a Metre might be good - purely because it'll be a cheap way to practise Grin

Sew Everything Workshop is a great introduction to tons of techniques, with some really usable patterns.

And then just browse Amazon when she's got a feeling for the sorts of things she wants to achieve. Do make sure she works on her hand sewing as well though?

That's a great idea Dame Fanny - thank you!

I have a huge fabric stash from 4 years of quilting so she has a lot of scope!

Hurrah! There's another book I can't remember the name of, something like "yes I made it myself" which I got for a friend's daughter and might be worth a look?

Yeah I Made It Myself?

It does look good. I think I might get that one for me.

That's the one - probably a bit basic for you, but some easy dresses for dd

Emma Hardy has a "my first sewing machine book" which might be suitable depending on how old your DD is. I haven't used it but have used a lot of Emma Hardys other books with success.

Dd has this book www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?productId=197348&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&langId=100&searchTerm=Sewing&pageNumber=4
She hasn't done any of the knitting stuff but lots of the sewing stuff by herself (10yrs old) - and I mean by herself! Lovely book - just read the review! And it's only a fiver Grin
