Embroidery kits that aren't twee

Thatballwasin posted in Chat to ask for suggestions for freestyle embroidery kits that aren't twee. TheGirlOnTheLanding suggested having the thread moved to here, for future reference (Chat threads being deleted after 90 days). In case that doesn't happen I thought I'd start a thread here - feel free to pile in with other recommendations!

So far the suggestions are:

  • a book called Hoopla, which includes patterns
  • Clare Youngs' Scandinavian Needlecraft book:
clareyoungs.co.uk/book/scandinavian-needlecraft-5/
  • blogs: Feeling Stitchy; Urban Threads; Mr Cross Stitch;
fuckyeahembroidery.tumblr.com/

If you have any suggestions for 'non-twee' embroidery or cross-stitch please add them here.

Cross Stitcher magazine usually has loads of non twee charts and is a fiver. Not a bunny or teddy in sight!
