sewing machine help please

hiya just got my first sewing machine - i ve put thread on the bobbins, threaded the top and bottom following the instructions. and its not working. the needle keeps on jamming after a couple of stitches and theres loads of thread gathered on the bottom. from the spool thingy. please please help as im getting narked now!

try taking the spool thingy out and turning it upside down and putting it back in, and re-thread your top needle, and make sure your needle is screwed securely in it's hole

check you've threaded properly - and check that when you pull the thread from the bottom the spool is moving in a clock wise direction. Also check the needle is in the right way round - flat side against the machine

Also - what thread are you useing ? My latast machine jammed before it had even made a stitch - I was using a sylko pure cotton - when I took the machine back to the shop they said they thought the thread was too thick!
