Fabric for a toddler dress

Can I appeal to the knowledge of the Art and Craft board?

I'm going to make an itty bitty baby dress www.made-by-rae.com/2008/04/free-itty-bitty-baby-dress-pattern/ in a toddler size for my niece. If I was making a summer dress I'd just use a cotton poplin. I want the dress to have a bit more weight to it - what fabric should I use? I was wondering about a cotton twill.

I was going to order the fabric online so I've got no chance to feel it and I'm a bit lost!

I think cotton twill would be fine (maybe pre shrink it before you cut and sew). Is the dress reversible? I had a gorgeous one for my daughter years ago that was navy blue very fine needlecord on one side and a patterned cotton on the other. It was great for the winter/spring or autumn/winter seasons.

Thanks! It's not reversible but the bodice is a double layer- hopefully that'll make it really simple to sew (I was being economical with the truth - my niece is actually twins)!
