Anyone else have the occasional bad sewing day?

What is it with my sewing today?
Everything that can go wrong is going wrong.
I've had to fuss with the bobbin winder and lose 2 bobbins full of thread because they haven't wound properly and were too tangled to unwind.
I've dropped everything on the floor at least twice.
My eyes don't seem to be able to focus properly and it's like I'm using my toes instead of fingers.

Baaaaah. I've given up. Sad

oh yes! put it away have a culpa and try again tomorrow Smile

All the time! Stuck my finger through a seam yesterday when I was in a rush - more haste less speed indeed!

A cup of tea and a biscuit is my usual remedy Brew

Oh yes, the other week I chucked a bag I was making onto the sofa in the conservatory and I've yet to do any more work on it.

And another day on my other machine the needle fell out 3 times Confused

starfishmummy · 31/01/2014 16:23

Put it away for today. Clearly isn't meant to happen

Amy106 · 31/01/2014 16:41

Oh yes, I have. I once stepped on a sewing needle and embedded it so far into my big toe that it took surgery to have it removed. Now that was a bad day! Give yourself a break from it today and try again tomorrow.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 31/01/2014 16:44

Yes, especially when I'm using the sewing machine, and I have days when it keeps coming unthreaded or I forget to put the foot down or use the wrong stitch or a bit of the sewing gets folded over and I sew it to itself.

RavenRose · 02/02/2014 15:21

I find that the earlier I reach for the unpicker the worse the day will go. If its in my hand within half an hour of starting I might as well pack up an try again on a different day.

There's a skirt chucked over the dining room door that's not meant to be. First seam had to be unpicked as I'd sewn right side to wrong side of fabric. Next try had one piece upside down. Unpicked again. I'll give it a week and slow down a bit next time!

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 02/02/2014 15:32

I did give up in the end and went back to it yesterday.

Note to self - never sew with slippery fraying polyester again and never pick a fabric with a pattern that needs soooo much fussing with on both the vertical and horizontal planes.

If I can make it work, though, it will be gorgeous. Grin

Hormones? Although some days there are definitely gremlins in my knitting machine.

whatdoesittake48 · 05/02/2014 15:37

I wish I could sew more than a cushion cover. I refuse to unpick anything - so I just bodge it...
My sewing machine rarely sees the light of day - now you know why!

craftyduchess · 06/02/2014 12:16

Some days I just have to give up and try again another day.

Though I need to learn when to stop otherwise I'll have to do what I did the other day and unpick a binding of a baby quilt. Yep all of it! Turns out I had used the wrong seam measurement. That was a bad day.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 06/02/2014 15:36

Well I'm not alone then!

I did go back to the dress last night and all went well. I'm having a day to finish it tomorrow so I'm hoping for a good sewing day. Smile
