Idiots guide to quilts?

I have been spending too long on Pinterest decided to make each DC a quilt for christmas.

Is it assorted fabrics sewn together, wadding and a backing fabric? Do I need something to go between each bit of fabric? What do I use for backing?

.....or you could buy a plain duvet cover, applique onto it, put the batting/wadding inside, sew the opening, sew channels or free sew a pattern through the whole thing.

I am an idiot and I needed weekly classes & someone to explain things to me.

But lots of videos & info on youtube, if that works for you.

Click through to the tutorials on Pinterest & find one you can follow.

Quilt-as-you-go is quite a quick technique so might be good for a beginner.

Yes, patchwork top + wadding + batting = quilt.
You can use a cheap sheet for backing. I've heard about people using Ikea duvet covers. Alternatively you can piece together some large bits of fabric to make the right size.

oops typo, I mean backing not batting. Batting is another word for wadding.

Thank you all. No doubt I shall return with more stupid questions when I attempt bags and a doll for DD Grin

Pinterest is making me believe I have skills hidden somewhere.
