A costume challenge - but NOT for World Book Day

..it is for a school play.

DD is "Friday Morning" (Man Friday) in the school panto. Her costume request has come home as "rags" (with a "you know what I mean - right?" note from her teacher )

DD burst into tears, said it was a rotten part, said she wanted to be a princess like her type cast queen bee friend. I have promised to produce some pictures to show her what I have in mind and now I can't find any. I have an approximate idea of shorts and top cut into pointed ragged ends, or maybe a shift dress with the same effect, but she's 7 and feeling fragile and she wants pictures

Help. Please.

I couldn't find a picture that worked and wouldn't have made DD howl all over again, so I drew one - negotiated solution now achieved - she wants to girlify it, so shirt (last seen when DS was a musketeer grin) cut into points (which elicited "I like that shirt protests from DS, who outgrew it 4 years ago ) and handkerchief skirt made out of ancient (and ripped beyond repair) linen sheet, with shell necklace (which she has) and bare feet (not sure about that in February but I don't have any better suggestions). We have scavenged for material but she wants it all dyed brown.

Fingers crossed her teacher approves the sketch tomorrow, or I am back to square one!
