Fake sand

6YO DD needs to do a desert scene for school. How would you 'craft' sand?

I'd use real sand.
Failing that could you use polenta or cous cous?

Salt and rub yellow and orange chalk in it, works well. Need to be careful not to get it too wet gluing it on.

Sandpit sand would be best. Here you just dig up a bit of garden, we live in sandstone.

Flour and baby oil might do. It's certainly a way of making Moon-type Sand.

It seems to be known as cloud dough.
