Inspiration for an easy project

I am about to start maternity leave much earlier than originally planned for medical reasons. I would like to start an easy project, possibly something for new DC (don't know sex). I would love some suggestions. I'm open to ideas although I get all tense if I try to knit or crochet so maybe not that!

How about sewing? Making a floor mat/quilt for baby to lie on. Lots of bright colours, wadding so it's comfy. Can be as small/large as suits the length of mat leave. My mum made one for each of my DC, they are roughly 1x2 feet, used them when they were very little as floor mat (tummy time) and as they got older as spare blanket, and now the DC use them to play with.

How about scrapbooking? Have a look on Pinterest for inspiration - some people make really beautiful pages! You could do all the creative stuff now and use photo corners so that when DC arrives, all you need to do is slot the photos in.

Thanks both. The floor mat is a great idea but my DM is making one and she is amazing at sewing so her creation will overshadow anything I can make! She made one for DS too, it was amazing.

I will look into scrap booking although I find Pinterest really confusing. A new Hobbycraft has just opened near me so I might go for a wander round there for inspiration.

Start simple with bunting customised with your babies name/date etc.

It's just triangles with ribbon or tape at the top - you can complicate it by double siding it, sewing letters/numbers/a saying on it, pretty embroidery owls/rabbits/felt flowers so that every triangle is different.
