Sewing machine projects for novice

Hi, I recently was given a sewing machine for my birthday and want to start making but don't know where to start. I did GCSE textiles (24 years ago!) and made my dd a dress when she was born (she is nearly 5) so my recent experience is not great.
Any ideas to get me started would be great...also is there a magazine/book/ website to recommend.
Thanks

Cushions, aprons, kit bags, door stops, simple bags and wallets. All easy and can look great. Lots of blogs cover the basics. Failing that your library will have some useful books.

Have a look at Martha Stewarts website

This is one of her books

just to say I'm really envious! I've always wanted to do a duvet set in really funky fabric - everything seems too cath kidston, too boy or out of my price range in shop bought ones.

What would you like to make, ideally? Home furnishings, or clothes for your DD, or clothes for yourself? There are good novice projects in each of those categories, so it makes sense to choose something that will enthuse you.

Thanks for the replies. I guess just something easy that won't take too long to complete so I can have a sense of accomplishment. Will have a look at the links.
Thanks
