What can I do with old karate belts?

Ds has just graduated to a red belt and refuses to pass on the white. He has a bit of a hoarding problem.

So I was thinking I'd frame it or something, but then as he goes through the grades I'll end up with eleventy of the damn things.

Then I thought aha [Alan Partridge] I'll turn it into a bandage-style cushion cover. But of course despite being longer than me it only does 2 and a half wraps of a cushion. So I could wait til he gets a few more and then do something, OR, someone else might have a bright idea? Pretty please?

I'm watching with interest. DS has white, blue and red belts and is likely to do another couple of gradings this year.

What about a bed cover/runner? DS's belts are stitched down the vertical length so it would look quilted.

ds has lots, i just roll them up and put them in a frame . they're his so i imagine he may want to do something with them when he's older iykwim

I was going to suggest rolling them up so you, eventually, end up with lots of circles in a frame.
Or roll the first into a circle then add the next around it so it makes a bigger, stripey circle and hang it on the wall as an ever growing piece of art?

Isn't yellow the belt after white? I thought red was way up?

unrelated to OP musings

Watching this with interest as I need to do something with my dd's tae kwon do belts. I was thinking of rolling them up and putting them in a box frame but I like the idea of sewing them into something. The only trouble is every new belt will need to be added on some how...

You could go with a throw/rug I guess, if they are all the same length. It'll be really small to start with though :)

Deeply impressed by your creativity and the strength of your needles - dss karate belts are very solidly made.

I have eight or so old belts cluttering up a cupboard, so if you would like any more to complete your quilt or whatever, please do let me know. We have a very small house, so do need rid of 'em.

Display them - on something like.... this

Or make something - a stool , a bag

etc

Blimey - I've gone from no ideas to too many Grin

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I might go with a chair back and seat if he keeps going, so I'll tuck them in the bottom of the stash for now.

Happy New Year you marvellous people!

They are really long, so you would get quite a lot of 'material' out of one belt. I have two orange belts in my house. Grin

I just don't have room for them myself, they've all gone in the local recycling clothes bin! Hats off to anyone who can make something half decent with them!

My two DC are now on their brown belts so thinking about it now I regret I should have cut off a small amount of each of them and made some kind of montage out of them rather than keeping the whole thing.

Now annoyed with self.....!
