Can you recommend a decent, cheap, first time sewing machine?

Have been thinking about buying a sewing machine for my daughter's tenth birthday.

I'm thinking something that offers the basics, is reliable, easy to use and not too pricey.

Any recommendations please?

Ikea have one!

My daughter requested one for her 25th bday (oldie alert !)
I looked at the ikea one but thought it was a little small and light however it is a good price @£45
I went for the brother one on offer from hobby craft and if you sign up to their club/email you get another 15% off making it just under £60
I looked at the reviews of smaller ones and they seemed to be aimed at the child market at not much cop tbf

I bought this one www.johnlewis.com/brother-xn1700-sewing-machine/p231648865 for myself back in the summer and have found it really easy to use. It should be able to cope with anything she might want to make.

We got this for our 10yr old DD in June. Simple enough for her (and me) but strong enough to cope with tough fabrics, and comes in gorgeous colours.

I started at age 8yo with an old Singer turn handle operated one. They are brilliant for starting as you can control how fast you go. I used that until I was 21, and my dd (age 13) uses it now.

Sorry for late reply, been driving around the country picking up various family members!

Thank you for these ideas, will go and have a look at them....although as for one of the old handle operated singers, I'm not sure where I'd get one now!
