Hi all, this is my first time in this topic as I'm the least artsy crafty person I know. Fortunately DD (almost 10) takes after her Dad.

I am thinking of buying DD a sewing machine for Christmas but before I do, I want to make sure we can purchase kits/patterns that DD will be able to do on her own or at least with little help from me, as I will be a hindrance.

I don't want my lack of ability (or interest tbh) stop DD as she seems to love creating and sewing generally.

Any recommendations? any advice much appreciated.

I wouldn't start her off on patterns but look for basic instructions on how to make a reusable shopping bag, make-up/trinket bag, purse, mobile phone cover , apron etc

Appliques are good, effective and easy to do using a bought plain t shirt www.google.co.uk/#q=applique+techniques

lots of stuff to do [[http://craftgawker.com/post/category/needlecraft/
here]]

Once she gets the hang of her machine then cushions, handbags?

these would be an ideal first pattrn

Thank you so much, just what I was after. Good point about getting her used to the machine before starting a pattern.

Anyone else have any good sites they use?
