What kind of pen do I need

I bought some v cute animals made out of wood. Not sure type - possibly a thin plywood. I want to personalise them in a thin black pen but am worried the ink will spread. What type best?

Someone had a similar thread recently - something about plaques of wood I think. You'd need to test them out, but the Sakura Glaze pens are nice. I think the ink would sit on top of the wood and not spread.
