Am tempted by a Sizzix - now what do I do with it!

I am going mad cutting out 2.5" squares for a quilt, so have lashed out on a Sizzix and a square die from Hobbycrafte (the Big Shot is currently £50 if you spend £10 or more on dies)
Now, it is a ludicrous waste of money if I only use it for that - but I have never done anything papercrafty before - what simple things can I do with my Big Shot, and are there any ideas for things that sell well that I could recoup some of the outlay with! Any hints and tips on the best uses for a diecutter will be much appreciated :)

I have one - I love it!!

Cuts all sorts of shapes for applique, collage, etc., plus gift tags of various sizes.

DIL borrowed it to make wedding stuff.

My library of dies is building up nicely thanks to ebay.

Gemma - how much do you pay for dies? I am tempted but since I mostly do appliqué I would end up "needing" a lot of dies Blush

Ooooh, watching with interest. I was sorely tempted by their last offer a few weeks ago but managed to not give in. But this is a far more manageable price. Might not be able to resist this time.

I've bought them in ebay auction listings for a few pounds each (I had to really trawl through to find ones I wanted) and I've bought some in a sale at www.cuttingedgecrafts.co.uk and from www.sizzix.co.uk. I think the most I paid was £14 for one.

I've got about 14 at the moment and they all have more than one shape on, but I'm always on the look out for new ones Wink

Interesting. Do you use it for cutting fabric, or mostly paper?

GemmaTeller · 05/11/2013 12:48

Both, I cut mostly fabric and felt (and it can cope with several layers) the gift tag ones are mostly used for card.

DIL borrowed it with all the dies and cut card on a lot of the dies.

I have no idea where to begin with paper crafts - some of the ideas out there look so fussy. Are there any particularly good websites for inspiration?

Have already thought about getting a mixed size simple flower die and cutting felt flowers to decorate hair bands/clips for the DDs, perhaps using buttons for centres

I know where I can get quilting dies for fabric from - Accuquilt make dies compatible with Sizzix, likeing the paper ideas as that's where I have no experience
