Costco -Janome sewing machine

I went to Costco today and am now the happy owner of an Janome CMX30 machine.. It was £169 including VAT. On Amazon they are £210 plus delivery charge of £5. I have a basic Janome, I can't wait to start playing with all the extra bits and pieces, especially as I'm making my first patchwork quilt.

Cool! I have the same model I think, bought from Costco a couple of years ago and I LOVE it! I have become much more confident and I find it very easy to use. Still haven't tried a good proportion of the bits that came with it though...

I find the auto knot straight stitch particularly handy for stuff with lots of short seams, I don't quilt much but imagine that would be pretty handy for you.

DH says I can't have till I've sold my sewing machine and embroidery machine to fund the new one.

oops, that should have said - 'DH says I can't have the one in Costco till...'

Gemma - why don't you tell him it could take a while to sell your other machines and you don't want to miss a bargain.

I'm gradually wearing him down, every time we go in Costco I go and sigh wistfully over it (besides he has his eye on the electric/computerised drum kit and its only fair if one of us gets something the other one gets something

Ahhhhh, hoping you ladies can help me!?! I too have the same machine as you and have promptly broken it!!!!!!!! Aggghhhhh I'm so mad with myself!!! Was trying freehand embroidery and dropped the feed dogs which all went fine, but come to sew normally and it keeps knotting up! Don't know if I've moved something when I've been putting the bobbin in? If I take a photo wonder if one of you lovely ladies could compare it with yours, or take a similar photo for me to look at???

Mollymummy how did you get on with the free embroidery? I have tried and tried and my efforts are dreadful! I just can't seem to control the fabric and cannot sew without big waves!

Hi MollyMummy you can fit my knowledge of sewing machines on a postage stamp but when I had a problem like yours it was a tension issue. Have you adjusted yours?

I too have this model and it's great. I use mine for my business and it's perfectly adequate to do everything I need it to do. For the price, it's fab.

As for knotting up, I had this issue. The needle had scratched the bobbin case and I ended up having it repaired by the local sewing shop. Might be worth taking it in and letting an expert look at it. Mine cost £55 to repair including parts, labour and a service.

First of all have you brought the feed dogs back up after the free hand, make sure that they are proud and engaged.

Next, check the way your thread, have your needle in the highest position possible, pull enough thread through that will go all the way. Now look at your tension disks and make sure it is between the two of them and not hiding behind one.... this is the reason that the cotton often gets tangled at the start of sewing because the tension is not properly under control.
