Can I fix this?

I have recently got the hang of a simple Granny Square. I decided to just keep going to make a blanket.

I have noticed that it seems bigger at the corners.....

Can I fix it by blocking once I get bored and decide it is big enough or am I destined to have an oddly pointed blanket??

This happens because crochet stitches ever so slightly lean and as the granny gets bigger the rounds will start to spiral and the bigger the square, the more noticeable it is.

This warping is quite normal but you can lesson it by having a looser tension when you first start off and I sometimes go down half a hook size as the granny progresses or I don't add chains in the corners.

I.e. Each corner would usually be three double crochet, one or two chains and then three more double crochet. I simply omit the one or two chains if I think it's warping in the corners.

Blocking helps tremendously but you can monitor the shape as you go along.
