Please could any crochet pros translate this for me?

I've found this pattern for slippers. The thread has about 400 replies saying how incredibly easy and quick they are. I have yeah, I have hooks, but I have no idea what hdc is and it means nothing to me - I think it's US crochet lingo perhaps? If anyone has a moment to translate it into beginner speak I'd be eternally grateful!

ch 2. 6 hdc in first ch. join

ch 2. 2 hdc in each stitch around. join.

ch 2. 1 hdc in next st. 2 hdc in next st. repeat around. join.

ch 2. 1 hdc in each st around. Join. Do this till toe area is the length you want.

ch 2. hdc in next 14 sts. turn and continue this till foot area is length you want. You want the slipper to fit snug, so when you get to the heel, put right sides together and slip stitch shut.

Do a row of sc across the top of the slipper to finish the edge. You can add a strap by starting on one side and making it 2 sc wide then slip stitching it to the opposite side.

It's half double crochet. If you search in YouTube you will see a demo - its essentially Inbetween double and triple ( in uk lingo). Very easy :)

Thank you! I feel daft that I couldn't work it out. The US terminology confuses me hugely!

Another quick question ... The joining thing isn't clear to me - it looks like I could just keep working in a spiral. Is there any reason that won't work?

I would start with a magic ring and spiral it for the tube bit.

What's a magic ring? Blush

Its a super neat way of starting to crochet in the round. Leaaves virtually no hole in the middle.

I'm sure there will be some you tube vids around too.

Hdc is a htr stitch. So yarn over insert hook, yarn over then pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Sc is a double crochet.

Than you all for your help :) Flowers
