clear varnish on a gloss side table...

does anyone know if this will work, I've got the IKEA lack side table to make into a lego table for DS this Christmas, I thought I might put some minifig stickers on the legs of the table (legs all separate, not attached at the moment) and then put some clear varnish over the top to stop the kids picking at the stickers.

Does this sound like a good or silly idea????

Basically that's decoupage....you can do it I'm sure but might have to apply more than one coat of varnish to get it flat...or the stickers will appear raised. I would use a non gloss varnish too.
