I've found this pattern
craftside.typepad.com/craftside/margaret_hubert/

I am not sure what kind of wool I should use for it.
I tried using just some 100% cotton but it seems to me that I need something much softer and a bit strechy.

The sample was done with an approximately aran-weight acrylic, I agree that cotton isn't likely to be stretchy enough as you need it to be stretchy to fit the head but not fall off.

It's worsted weight so roughly a thinner aran or thicker dk yarn should work pretty well.

Oooh! Just what I have been looking for! I just made myself a gorgeous scarf from Louise Harding Grace hand dyed 50% wool 50% silk and I want to make a matching hat. I love the look of this
