Cotton batting - should I pre-shrink?

Just that really. The packet claims that if you don't Pre-shrink then on the first wash it will shrink slightly, creating a 'pleasing antique effect'.

Does anyone have any experience with this? How pleasing is this effect? Grin

What would you recommend?

TIA

I always pre-shrink but that's just my preference. The effect is that when it is washed the batting will shrink slightly but the top and bottom wont so it will look a bit puffed up and slightly wrinkly. It's hard to explain but if you google it you might find some pictures.

Thanks smudge - I tried googling but to no avail. I think I will pre-shrink, it is for a baby quilt with modern-ish fabric, I'm not sure I want it too puffy.

Thanks again.

No worries. If its a modern one i definitely would pre-shrink. Enjoy making it!
