I am attempting to cultivate a reputation for my beautiful gift - wrapping and am somewhat held back by my inability it tie a beautiful fabric bow.
Any tips will be most gratefully received.

Do it upside down. Tie it by making the two ends of the ribbon into loops and tying them in a single knot. Doing that way instead of the make a loop, wrap the other end around a pull through method, makes a much better bow but for some reason they are always upside down. So try it with your present facing away from you and ou should have perfect bows.

Does that make any sense?

You could always invest in one of these:

I think they do a bigger version as well, if you want your gifts to really stand out Grin

Try taking your long piece of ribbon round your first loop in a clockwise direction rather than an anti-clockwise direction (ie round the back of the loop first rather than the front).
This makes your bow loops sit nicely instead of looking a bit drunk.
Alternatively, treat yourself to a gift wrapping workshop and have a lovely day learning all sort of clever tricks.

I was taught to do a " ballet bow "
It's like a reef knot. I agree its upside down.
Start with ...right over left and under

Make rabbit ears with the tails of the ribbon away from you , then do ... Right over left and under .
