Cheaper alternatives to extra fine merino yarn

I want to knit some cushions but the recommended yarn is extra fine merino which would end up costing me approx £35!

Can anyone recommend a similar weight/style yarn that wouldn't be as expensive?

Thanks poltergoose. I know what you mean, I wish I could afford it but I just can't justify it atm.

Could you maybe fine a cheaper brand of merino? What did the one you looked at cost?

Drops extra fine merino is lovely, I use it a lot.

If I couldn't afford it. I'd just substitute the right weight of wool in acrylic.

I've crocheted cushions using stylecraft acrylic, they've come up very nice. Maybe not as lovely to the touch as the merino ones, but they look great all the same and a fraction of the cost.

I was going to suggest the Drops merino. I've not used it but have heard good thins about it.

eBay list merino/silk/cashmere/cotton blends from china. I get them varying from 99p-1.69 for 50g.
It's nice stuff, the only down side is you can wait up to 3 weeks for for it to come. I would wash it too much though!
