Which fabric for this dress?

Hi mumsnetters

I am hoping to make this dress for a party.

I know I need a drapey fabric but I want something that will skim rather than reveal every lump and bump. Would satin back crepe be better than crepe de chine (polyester as I can't afford silk!)? Any thoughts or other suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

I would try a "peach skin" type polyester crepe fabric. Something with a little bit of weight to help it skim. Satin back crepe might be a little too heavy though.
poly cupro ££ but this seller does samples and has a good range of different fabrics

first black peach skin one I found on eBay but there are more and in different colours

Hello teabag, thanks for the advice. Sadly I haven't had time to buy fabric and make a dress in time for the party. I'm going to a wedding in Nov though so might attempt a homemade outfit for that.Grin

Sounds like me- I have the material for a dress for FiL's 60th at end of the month, but have no spare time between now and then to try to make it up!
