Very dusty sewing machine

I've just been given a sewing machine that has been sitting in a cupboard uncovered for years. It's very dusty and sticky over allt he working parts including the bobbin bit. I can sew with it but everything gets gunky. Is there any hope of cleaning it, or should I just get a new one.

It's an old-style Singer, so pretty good in itself.

You should send it for servicing...they can take it apart to clean it for sure. Cheaper than a new one! Or I would try sewing reams of waster cotton fabric until it runs clean! And clean the bits you can see.

Thanks for your reply. Would that be through Singer?

If you google "Sewing machine service" and the name of your town, you will find a variety of places...some will list Singers as a specialty.

if your in London Wimbledon Sewing machine center in Tooting - brilliant and not expensive.

Thanks for those. We're in West Wales - a long trip for a sewing machine!
