How in the name of all that is holy do I attach a ribbon edging to a fleece blanket such that:

  1. The edging is even on both sides
  2. The pinned edging stays in place
  3. The blanket stays in the edging
  4. The blanket doesn't stretch and the edging ruck up
  5. Sewing of said edging to blanked is even and straight.
  6. Stitching goes through fleece, and both sides of ribbon

FFS i can dress-make lovely tops having altered the pattern myself, but I have been completely defeated by this!

Help!!!

Are you trying to sew ordinary straight ribbon to the blanket like a binding? No wonder it's so frustrating!

You need to use bias cut ribbon so that it folds easily and also goes round the corners neatly. Here is a tutorial that demonstrates how to attach a bias binding. You could think about buying a bias binding maker and make your own. They are less than a fiver.

You can buy ready folded satin bias ribbon for edging blankets but it can be pricey. It's cheaper and just as easy to cut your own.

Oh crap. Well that explains it. I normally use edging I have made myself but wanted a silky ribbon edging due to tactile hypersensitivity of the child the blanket is going to.

Thanks for explain the basic level of the problem. Easily avoided next time just blanket stitch the edging of anything fleece i need to deal with
