Has anyone made their own cot bumper?

I'm thinking of attempting one but don't know whether it's wise to use an ebay one and strip the cover to use for the wadding (also with the benefit of it being a template) or just use normal wadding. I've had a gander on t'interweb and most people seems to be doing the former.

Any real-life experience or advice gratefully received!

Mil made ours from scratch.

Thanks Hormonal. Do you know whether she used a particular pattern, and if so where she got it from?

Not yet but am planning to! Had one for DS and now expecting a DD so wanted to make a chintzy girls one for her. Was planning on making from scratch in the same way I make quilts but adding on the ties. Am gong to use the same measurements as my DS's one. Could maybe email you them if it would help? It's just an ordinary rectangle one. I also have a patterning a rather old fashioned book for one of a different shape.

I thought cot bumpers weren't recommended. Isn't it one of the SIDS risks?
